Dragon & Phoenix Bears

龍鳳婚慶熊

A pair made to celebrate a beginning.

Dragon & Phoenix Bears are handmade wedding bears inspired by traditional Chinese dragon and phoenix motifs. Made as a pair, they are created to mark a new beginning and to remain as part of the home after the celebration.

Made as a Pair

Two figures, one composition.

One bear carries the dragon, the other the phoenix. In Chinese decorative tradition, the dragon and phoenix are often paired as symbols of harmony, partnership, and auspicious beginnings.

The two bears are designed in response to one another. Their fabrics, colours, embroidery and small details may differ, but together they form a single composition. This idea of pairing has remained at the heart of the Dragon & Phoenix Bears series from its earliest versions to the bears I continue to make today.

An Early Pair

One of the earliest Dragon & Phoenix Bear pairs was created in 2007. That year, the pair was entered in the Taiwan Teddy Bear Show & Creative Awards, organized by the Taiwan Teddy Bear Association, where it received Second Place in the Mix Materials Bear category.

Looking back, many of the elements that still define the series were already present: richly patterned textiles, paired forms, handcrafted details, and the idea of translating traditional Chinese wedding symbolism into a soft sculptural object made for the home.
